Kraków’s John Paul II International Airport of Balice is situated on the outskirts of the city and is Poland’s second busiest airport. The airport has regular direct links to and from major destinations so you will find that you are able to fly there easily from a lot of places. There are many flight operators flying into and out of Kraków from England, including British Airways, easyJet, Jet2.com and Ryanair. The Polish national carrier LOT also flies between Kraków and England so you may find a good deal with them. If you are not looking to buy a package holiday and would prefer to pay for flights and accommodation separately, the best way to secure a cheap flight to Kraków, or anywhere, is to book as early as possible. This is because business travellers will pay high prices at the last minute to ensure they reach their emergency meeting, so airlines raise their prices knowing they will get the money for them. To get the best deals around make sure you use ‘screenscrapers’ which are price comparison websites which do all the shopping around for you once you enter in your holiday details. The best examples of these are Travel Supermarket, Skyscanner and Kayak. These often search different websites so its best to use two when looking. The airport is approximately 15 minutes drive from the city centre and has many options to travel there. One option is to simply hire your own car and drive yourself there, but as Kraków is a busy business and educational hub as well as tourist destination, you may find that the time you spend sitting in traffic is not worth the bother. An alternative method on the road is a bus service which runs from a stop about 50 meters away from terminal T1, costing around €0.80. Look for the numbers 292, 208 and 902 as these will all take you into the centre via different routes. Taxi stands are also situated by both of the passenger terminals although it is recommended that you call a taxi rank to send you a car as these will often agree the price with you before you get in the car. Fares should not exceed €35.00 for these taxi’s, but you may find that unauthorised taxis are more expensive. With five trunk lines, Kraków has one of Poland’s main railroad junctions and the Kraków Glowny station is situated right in the city centre. Every day trains come from main cities in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine. There is also a shuttle train service running every 30 minutes to the airport. Single tickets can be bought on the train for around €2.00 and departs from a stop by the terminal T1. |
